Description

This collection of essays is, in the main, a summary of positions. At the same time there is an attempt to provide reading lists. The latter have been taken from the works studied and added to or modified slightly. The intention has been to provide resources in the form of summary and reading list. My own contribution has been to introduce the work sometimes by way of reference to the essay before, summarise the thesis, article or book concerned and then briefly close the discussion with one or two points of interest but not a definitive conclusion and introduce or look forward to the next work. It is hoped that Theories of Art, Performance and Society in Aotearoa might be used in future as a resource and reference text.

Reviews

‘Absolutely essential for anyone wanting to understand New Zealand,. Critically important…’ ‘Cleave has produced a collection of theories or points of view that sit, comfortably or awkwardly as the case may be, alongside one another. These are presented so that one writer might be considered along with another or against a set of others in such a way as to let through the nature of the place people call Aotearoa or New Zealand or home.’
