Laurence (Laurie) John Brenssell - fifth generation of the Outram Brenssell lineage - spent six years researching and writing this 365 page volume about the fascinating life of the Brenssell family of Germany who were early settlers to the province of Otago in 1863. The story describes the trials and tribulations in leaving their homeland, the arduous journey in a sailing ship, arriving in a foreign land and the challenges they faced creating a new life in both Australia and New Zealand. Laurie’s passion for research and his attention to detail has uncovered some fascinating facts along with some entertaining stories relating to the Brenssell early settlers and their descendants. The book includes many photographs, newspaper clippings and other documentation along with some transcripts of correspondence between family members.

Author description

The author, Laurence (Laurie) John Brenssell is a fifth generation of the Outram Brenssell lineage, born in Mosgiel in August 1950.  He has been married to Margaret for thirty six years and he has two children. Son Todd and daughter Melanie, and two grandchildren.  Althuogh proudly of Otago, Laurie and his wife currently reside in Hamilton, New Zealand.
